These events are among the highest caliber of Christian women’s gatherings in the Mid-Atlantic area. Music, ministry, teaching, relaxing, talking, and laughing—these are only a few of the reasons why every woman should experience a Sandy Cove weekend.
Here's a list of our upcoming events for women. Which do you think would appeal to your mom the most?
September 15-17, 2017 – September Women’s Weekend
With the business of summer past, it's time to slow down for a beautiful fall weekend on the Chesapeake Bay.
Theme: Many of life’s battles are won or lost in the mind. With every test we stand at the crossroads of being bitter or better, broken or built up, victim or victor. This weekend series is for every woman who is ready to break the cycle of toxic thoughts that contradict God’s promises. Renewing your mind is not just a childhood memory verse to be tucked away for safe keeping, but a divine instruction for daily victorious living. God has made freedom available to everyone—starting with making the mental choice to choose life and choose it abundantly, then creating intentional daily habits from the Word of God that shift our perspective, strengthen our faith, and give purpose to our story.
Speaker: Dr. Veirdre Jackson is an award-winning educator, entrepreneur, and advocate. She is a veteran educator with 20 years of experience, Founder and CEO of Living Strong Consulting, LLC., and co- founder of Fresh Fountain of Life: Counseling & Wellness Ministry.
Worship Leader: Gwen Smith is an author, speaker, worship leader, songwriter, and co-founder of Girlfriends in God. Her primary goal is to encourage women to think big thoughts about God by pointing them to His truth and grace through stories, songs, and Scripture.
October 12-13, 2017 - Girls' Night Out and A Day Off!
Be blessed and encouraged! Laugh and worship! At the end of a long day, take the time to relax. This one-night getaway is short but rejuvenating.
Theme: Get to know three women that demonstrate the power of women: Queen Esther, Rahab, and Lot's Wife. Experience their struggles, decisions, fears. Join them in laughter and lessons. See how God can use the most unlikely women to do great things: an orphan and a prostitute. In the case of Lot’s Wife, see how clinging to the past derailed her from the future God had planned for her.
Special Guest: Anita Gutschick is a playwright, actress, and President & CEO of Women of the Bible, a sketch performance company highlighting various women in the Bible. Each Biblical character sketch is written and performed by Anita. Anita is a member of Christians in Theatre Arts, The Network of Biblical Storytellers, and the Religious Conference Management Association.
October 20-22, 2017 - October Women's Weekend
This time of year at Sandy Cove is beautiful. The air is crisp, the leaves are changing color, and the bay is calm. There's no better time for a weekend retreat.
Theme: This Women's Weekend is sponsored by Girlfriends in God, Inc. (GIG), a non-denominational ministry that crosses generational and racial boundaries to bring the Body of Christ together as believers. Just as God sent Ruth to Naomi and Mary to Elizabeth, God continues to use women to encourage and equip other women in their spiritual journey—this philosophy is at the core of GIG.
Speaker: Sharon Jaynes is an author and international speaker at women's conferences and events. For 10 years Sharon served as Vice President of Proverbs 31 Ministries and co-host for their daily radio feature. She is the author of 20 books, has written numerous magazine articles and devotions for prominent Christian publications, and is a frequent guest on radio and television programs such as Family Life Today and Focus on the Family. Sharon is also a co-founder of Girlfriends in God, Inc.
Speaker: Mary Southerland is a leader at helping women manage stress and enjoy peace in their daily life. Even though Mary has published over a half dozen books, her greatest pleasure is serving beside her husband, Dan, author of Transitioning: Leading Your Church Through Change. In September 2005, they helped start The Next-Level Church in North Carolina, and they now serve a 5,000+ congregation at Westside Family Church in Kansas, where her husband is the Lead Teaching Pastor, and she is the Women’s Ministry Director. Mary is also a co-founder of Girlfriends in God, Inc.
Speaker and Worship Leader: Gwen Smith speaks, leads worship, and performs concerts for thousands of people annually at churches and Christian women’s events. She's a published author of 4 books and has written and co-produced 6 CDs and 2 EPs (contemporary Christian songs and worship). For 3 years she served as a staff songwriter and worship artist for Brentwood-Benson Music Publishing. Gwen is also a co-founder of Girlfriends in God, Inc.
November 10-12, 2017 - November Women's Weekend
Winter is around the corner. Start off the cluster of winter holidays with a relaxing and spiritually refreshing weekend!
Theme: This weekend has four sessions that will help women live in the rhythm and power of God. The sessions titles are "Say YES to God's Best," "She’s an Heir," "She is WISE," "Intimacy with God." Here's a glimpse into session 1: It's so easy to give away time to things un-appointed by God. We commit to something because it's a good cause or there's a great need. Or maybe because no one else will help out. The result? The days blur together, and we find ourselves overworked and under-joyed, desperate for a faith awakening. Here’s a critical point: all of our racing and rushing not only makes us tired, but it also makes us vulnerable. We tend to take shortcuts, lose focus, and unknowingly open the door for the enemy to lead us astray. God’s will for us always involves a measure of rest and reflection. We bear fruit in this life to the degree that we abide in the Vine, follow Jesus’ lead, and do what He says. His will for us is our best-case scenario. Will you say YES to the One who will rejuvenate your soul?
Speaker: Susie Larson is a published author of over 10 books and many articles. She formally co-hosted Focus on the Family's daily talk show, Everyday Relationships with Dr. Greg Smalley and she currently hosts her own daily talk show, Live the Promise with Susie Larson. Susie and her husband, Kevin, have worked alongside recording artist Sara Groves and her husband Troy with International Justice Mission as advocates for victims of human trafficking and slavery.
Worship Leader: For nearly ten years, soulful singer & songwriter Beckah Shae has been steadily gaining momentum, establishing her very own Shae Shoc Records with her husband & production collaborator, Jack Shocklee, and turning in eight studio CDs. Along the way, she’s racked up top 10 Billboard Christian CHR radio singles like “I’ll Be Alright,” “Here In This Moment,” and “LIFE,” scored a Dove nomination for the latter song, and served as a featured guest on TobyMac’s Billboard blockbuster Tonight album. She has collaborated with fellow multi-million album seller Montell Jordan on his latest Victory World Music project Shake Heaven and is now gearing up for two appearances on T-Bone’s upcoming album.
